Kevin McCarthy Announces Retirement from Congress

Kevin McCarthy, the Republican House Minority Leader, has announced his retirement from Congress, marking the end of his long political career. McCarthy, who hails from California, has served in the same congressional seat for 17 years.

McCarthy, the son of a firefighter, expressed his optimism in a statement, acknowledging his humble beginnings by recalling the time he was denied an internship in the very same office he eventually occupied. He emphasized the importance of his achievements, stating how only in America could such progress be made.

Throughout his career, McCarthy played a pivotal role in leading Republicans to a House majority on two occasions. Under his leadership, the Republican Party witnessed a historic increase in the number of minority, veteran, and female representatives elected to Congress.
